RUES (Registro Unico Empresarial y Social)
RUES is the Colombian unified business register, consolidating the registries maintained by the individual chambers of commerce into one national search. It covers commercial companies and ESAL non-profit entities.
Because it consolidates the chambers, RUES tells you not just the company identity and legal form but which chamber of commerce holds the underlying registration - which is where any deeper document request has to go.
We read it by NIT or company name and return the entry as structured data.
What is a NIT?
The Numero de Identificacion Tributaria, the Colombian tax identification number. It is the primary key for a company lookup in RUES.
What is an ESAL?
Entidad Sin Animo de Lucro - a non-profit entity. RUES covers ESAL registrations alongside commercial companies, so a lookup may return either.
Is RUES free to search?
RUES offers a public search of registered entities. Access is token-gated on the site itself and is not published as a general API, which is the gap our lookup covers.
