RCS, SIREN, SIRET
French companies are identified by SIREN, a nine-digit number issued by INSEE that stays with the legal entity for its lifetime, and SIRET, which extends it per establishment. Company registration itself sits in the RCS, the Registre du Commerce et des Societes.
France is unusually open with base identity data - SIRENE is published as open data - but director networks, financial filings and the links between officers across companies are considerably harder to assemble from the open sources alone.

What is the difference between SIREN and SIRET?
SIREN is the nine-digit identifier for the legal entity. SIRET is fourteen digits: the SIREN plus a five-digit NIC identifying a specific establishment. One company has one SIREN and one SIRET per site.
Is French company data free?
Base identity data from the SIRENE database is published as open data. Officer histories, filed accounts and cross-company director links are not available in that form, which is the gap our lookup covers.
Can I map French director networks?
Yes - by resolving officers per company and then joining on person identity across the results. That join is the actual work; the underlying company records are individually retrievable.
